Western V. Traditional Medicine

Western medicine is excellent for treating many health issues, but sometimes, Western veterinary medicine does not work as well hope.  Some pets with arthritis, intestinal diseases, epilepsy, nerve damage, cancer and other chronic conditions may not respond well to conventional, Western treatment.  The side effects of modern veterinary medicines may cause even more problems.  Many times, these difficult ailments can be managed effectively with Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) with virtually few side effects.

Our modern society often is oriented to a “quick fix” – take a pill and be better right away.  TCVM sometimes takes a little bit longer to be effective – but with much less risk of unpleasant side effects.  Western Medicine and TCVM have different approaches medically – but together they can be used to complement one another – this concept is known as Integrative Medicine.

Both Western Medicine and TCVM have strengths and weaknesses.  TCVM weakness is in diagnosis – modern diagnostic technology was not available when TCVM developed.  Clear diagnosis is the strength of Western Medicine.  Conversely, Western Medicine often has unpleasant side effects – which is TCVM’s strength.  Therefore, the best medicine integrates both approaches.
